No actually the people who call themselves Assyrians are the decsendants of the ancient Assyrians. Yes, they are Christian, but their ethnicity is Assyrian. Arabs would like to take credit for all their accomplishments, but Arabs were living in the regions of what are today known as Saudi Arabia and Yemen when Assyrians were ruling over Mesopotamia and other regions of the Middle East.
