Overclocking is the process of running a computer component at a higher clock rate (more clock cycles per second) than it was designed for or was specified by the manufacturer...
===========
"artifacting" are errors that a gpu makes while running at a to high clock, they are easy to spot, some examples: glitching, strange cubes... things you see on your screen and the should not be there, you can cure artifacting by decreasing the clock...

HIGH TEMPS. KILL COMPONENTS make sure you have good cooling!
REMEBER TO CHECK YOUR TEMPS.

===========

Note while overclocking you should go step by step with your clocks... (10MHz at a time) just to be on the safe side...

IF NOT DONE PROPERLY MAY DAMAGE YOUR HARDWARE!!!

if you have a card and you are not sure what is its safest highest clock, use the internet to find it out or check the users manual...
