When Alice, Bella, and Edward were in front of the Volturi Ancients in New Moon, Marcus was not amazed by Edward and Bella's relationship but Alice and Bella's. Edward tells Bella to follow her heart and she does, leading her to Alice.
They decide that Bella will have 3 days to be 'human' and then they will change her, sooner rather than later. Jasper doesn't move on and tries to break Alice and Bella in any way he can.
