While alternative energy resources are being developed, fossil fuels will continue to meet a large fraction of global energy demand for the foreseeable future.

As a complement to improving energy efficiency and using current energy resources intelligently, carbon sequestration offers a new set of options for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Sequestration is one of the few options that will allow us to remove large quantities of CO2 over a short period of time, and the most effective way to reduce emissions caused by coal-fired power plants.

In this process, pure CO2 is captured and then stored safely underground. By sequestering the CO2 in physical and chemical forms, immobility is assured over time, thus preventing CO2 escape from the geological storage formation.
