Wait? A 3D fractal? I wasn't aware you could render fractals in 3d?

Well before, there was stuff like the menger sponge, but the Mandelbulb is created by a non-IFS system. Because of this, the formula could have produced anything, but happily, the Mandelbulb was the surprising result instead :)

What kind of processing power? How long to render?

I think this one took a day or two to render. Working on a much better video at the moment though.
Take a look at bib993's "3D Mandelbulb crater transformation" - one of my faves so far.
