Once an iconic meeting place for the likes of VIP guests of Walt Disney World, the folks of Ocoee said good bye to what was now known as the "ugly pink building" on Highway 50. The hotel was quite the gathering place, hosting Rotary Club and Lions Club meetings, had quite the entertainment roster in theri nightclub and was "the place" to reserve a room for the VIP party for the opening of Walt Disney World in Lake Buena Vista. Unfortunately, over the years, greed set in and at the end, it was part hotel, part condo, part time share with over 400 owners at one time. Congratulations to the City of Ocoee for FINALLY putting this icon to rest. The history spans over 30 years - the demolition took less than 60 seconds. Bye bye Colony Plaza
I watched it live on TV this morning at work with a bit of sadness & nostalgia. I worked there in the mid 1980's. I met some really nice people there & have fond memories.
Bye-bye Colony Plaza.
