Rare old movie film of post-war Japan in the 1950's, where Les brought his family after the peace treaty was signed. Wherever they went, the Loken kids attracted lots of attention with their light hair and skin. There is a brief scene of Les's small son bowing to his teacher in school, as described in "94 YR OLD (PART 5) WW2 VETERAN". I'm not going to reveal the ages publically, so the children in the film are not identified.

  • What a gem of an old film. The kids are adorable. I know a few other people wanting to get their 8mm of old Japan transferred. How did you get yours done?

  • It's easy to do by projecting the film onto a screen (using an old projector) and filming the projected image with a digital (such as mini-DV) camcorder, in a dark room. Then transfer the footage from the camcorder to a computer with a firewire or DV cable.

  • The best screen for this is a large white sheet of foamboard, or something else with a smooth matte surface. It works better than those old "lenticular" or "beaded" screens. And the darker the room, the better the camcorder image will be.

  • great film everybodys having a good time.

  • Thank you for watching, George. :)

  • What a awesome video, to see people from Japan from so long ago is really amazing.

  • Thanks for watching, Justin. I'm glad you like the video. :)

  • Wonderful. Thanks so much for sharing.

  • the footage seemed during their field trip or a school excursion to kamukura and enoshima. although the film said its in tokyo, it seems in yokohama.

  • @nonSteel ...Excuse the observation, I am only a bystander, but you have truly overstepped the bounds of civility and good manners, whether you felt 'provoked' is irrelevant. " You dishonor your family" ??!! You're a grade-A ass, is what you are!

  • so one more time give me a break with your useless jugments .

even after quakes and unstable power plans i still concider japan a safer and better place to live .

  • my father's american my grand mother was japanese my mother is half icelandic half japanese and i was born in france so dont tell me what and what i can not say about any culture . you are the oone who is ignorant about japan but i lived in the US for over 10 years and could have had the american citizenship if i applied for it . but i was so stunned by the level of chauvinism and complex of superiorite of the people in the US i decided to refuse the citizenship .

  • @lukkha1

"easy to criticize when you are ignorant."

    exactly

you think you know both worlds or something. YOU CAN'T! You will never know what it's like to be american, just like i will never know what it's like to be japanese.

look at how arrogant you sound. I thought americans were supposed to be the arrogant ones, not the modest people of japan.

    you dishonor your family

  • @nonSteel and if you are so smart try to answer in japanese . i learned your language among others , that is so easy to criticize when you are ignorant .

  • @nonSteel see ! my point exactly always bringing it down to war.

but what are you without your army ? you're the real terrorists , at least in japan we have learned from our mistakes , you seem never to learn from yours. but oh wait.. maybe you think that's not even a mistake, and this is when it is alarming. anyway thank you for illustrating what everybody thinks about america, just a bunch of stupidly proud uneducated people

  • @lukkha1

    lol

    yeah ok japan

maybe japans army should try and stop america...oh wait..

  • @nonSteel countries dont want to kill every americans, stop giving in the paranoia , countries are just fed up with america trying to tell everybody how to live what to thing what to believe when america cant even face its own domestic problems . you dont rule the world and it would be a better place if americans tried to stop doing so
