Elaine Martin and Dorsey Barger started more than a restaurant when they opened Eastside Café in 1988. They created a connection to the origin of food through the garden that supplements Elaine's signature recipes. Dorsey tends the organic garden, fertilized with her home-made compost. Her ideas work for any small space garden, even apartments on balconies. With cinder blocks, stock tanks, and salvaged materials, she creates many garden options without a bunch of tools or a bunch of cash.

  • Thanks for the video. It looks like fun. But, I do have a question. I saw plants inside the cinder blocks (you know the square holes the blocks have). Does the summer time heat hitting the blocks get to hot?

  • Fantastic! This is how i want to live my life :)
