Changing of the Guard - Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

I saw this in the seventies when I was about 12 years old I can still remember it . It was awesome .

there was a weapon inspection at every guard mount when i was in the army pehaps not as precise but . its tradition.

The Russians do a better job at changing the guard, however, the rifle inspection was outstanding, well done Sargent, : )

this changing of the guard does not even begin to compare the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace

on god this guy can pass of as a robot...

you have to understand. these men worked hard to get to where they are at. and tradition is tradition and it wouldnt be the same if they changed or skipped parts of a ceremony like that. they would do this even if there wasnt a single soul there to watch them. they worked hard so they take a certain amount of pride into it

The tomb guard is the soldier that stands infront of the tomb guarding it. But a human being cant stand 24 hours there, so the change of the guard is when a fresh soldier comes and takes his place. this is done every hour(in winter) and half hour(in summer). A ceremony is done every time this is done.

what does the Changing of the Guard mean? can somebody plz explain?
