The strange tale of Loftus Hall in the South East of Ireland and what happened at the mansion one dark night back in the 18th century. A true story!

Forget this "Haunting In Connecticut" or "Amityville Horror" nonsense!

Loftus Hall was the original. This building was once accurately described as The Most Haunted Place on Earth, such was the fear it exerted over its inhabitants and the locals from the region.

The mansion still stands there today, though it is now unused and under lock and key. If you are a tourist in the Waterford / Wexford area, it's certainly worth a drive down to the peninsula to check out the beautiful view of the open sky and the sea from Hook Head lighthouse. And along the way, you can stop at the gateway to Loftus Hall and stare in over the fields at the isolated building.

After the incident portrayed in this video clip, there were other hauntings too in later years. Finally, an exorcism was carried out. A Catholic priest named Father Broaders was the exorcist whose work succeeded in quelling most of the paranormal activity. The hauntings became much rarer after that - though still did not die out entirely.

Father Broader's gravestone still stands today, not far from Hook Head. On the stone is written the following epitaph:

"Here lies the body of Thomas Broaders,
who did good and prayed for all,
and who banished the devil from Loftus Hall".

  • It's my understanding this won an Academy Award.

  • Re: "It's my understanding this won an Academy Award." Well actually it was nominated, but it didn't win. Apparently they thought the acting was a bit 'wooden'....the paper characters had 'no depth'... ; - D

  • Never mind the nay-sayers, this film is halirious! Its the serious voice, unnerving music combined with the cheap cut-outs for characters that make it so unique. Don't know what your budget was, but here in the USA they spend millions and most films are 100X worse. Have any of the Tottenhams ever commented I wonder?

  • @goodkarma33 thank you. You have a couple of interesting videos posted over there on your channel. What are those, pianolas? I know they're not, since a pianola would have a keyboard up front, but am too lazy to google it....probably called cylinders or something. Very nice idea to record these tunes.

  • ....and four words of warning-DONT WATCH STUPID VIDEOS!

  • @eiregc09 Thats impossible considering its not even the same building as the old one.

  • * Claps hands* bravo bravo , that was agood story that scared the living daylights out of me , you are a good storyteller 100 goldstars to you my good sir wonderful

  • The Loftus Hall legend was some kind of an next Irish folklore. And the man with the devil boots was a sinner gambler, and a pirate or crook dress as a devil himself. In the end the stranger went up to the roof top, mean he escaped by running through with a clay smoking pipe. And a man made smoke bombs, and disappeared to the roof top. And he must be a man who met Stingy Jack.

  • Loftus Hall?

After a spectacular through the ceilings and roof exit like that they should have renamed the place 'Leftus All' in his honour.

  • exactly the same story for the hellfire club in wicklow..weird that.

  • @obholian For years there was a an old man living behind the building and if you trespassed on the land he'd whip out his rifle. The family who owned it previously didn't want any of the history getting out, like there's no books on it as far as I know cos that's what the residents in hook head said. I know people vandalised it alright but not if anyone was crept out. Plus its in the middle of nowhere. Not many people want to go out there. This version is slightly wrong though.

  • lads in all fairness this is a load of dicky i live near it it was a cover up as the lords daughter slept wit the stranger who arrived there on the night and this was the cover story the buiding today aint even the original building it was built over it its now just a run down old dump thats bein robbed by the whole place this video all wrong
