Jimmy's THE Jazz-organist I Think. There's noone whose sound of the Hammond itself and the style of playing the Hammond is such unique.
Jimmy, you're missed :( Your music will ease the pain. Greatings From Germany

If that don't move you, you ain't right! Holding down that F with the thumb and playing with the other 4 fingers is NOT easy, especially for that long. Classic Jimmy Smith technique; a true Monster!

Thanks for the props to Wild Bill... MIDNIGHT TO DAWN and LIVE AT COUNT BASIE'S are the albums that represent what the B-3 is all about to me... Bill had the groove in terms of the bass lines and chords... Jimmy Smith split the atom merely by using his right hand to blow horn like lines... and boom... he got it... ! Check out young Pat Martino with Willis Jackson by the way if you like that bag!

you're right , jimmy was an innovator. and seems to be the first to cross over into general popularity...his mentor and inspiration was wild bill davis, the first guy to actually swing the hammond organ--on youtube somewhere. when i record with the hammond xk1 ( i'm mainly a guitarist), i just put it on the "jimmy" setting...sounds so cool, hits all the right tones, wildcat screaming on the high end and subtle cushion on the low end. jimmy found that perfect sound.

I didn't know Joey DeFrancesco was a skinny black guy!! oh wait.... haha jk :)

Jimmy is the original man, the innovator! People in the early 60s must have crapped themselves when they heard that loud organ bass over an acoustic
