"All the people of the world can be put into two categories: those who have had the platter, and those who have not."
For years masses of people have been flocking to the corner of 53rd & 6th (7:30PM - 4AM) to satisfy their hunger with simply the best meal in the City. Some people call it the "Platter" while others know it as "Chicken & Rice", the "Chicken Guy" or the "Gyro Spot." Part of the secret to this delicious meal is in the white sauce. Nobody knows what it is, but everybody knows to ask for lots of it.

Guys, you can say this is the best but if you come to Astoria, take the N or Q straight off to Broadway, that is the absolute best.. You have to come by and compare these two.

The white sauce is plain yogurt mixed with green chilli and coriander paste. Try making it..youll see its the recipe.

Even though they call it Gyro , it's really not. It's a Middle-Eastern dish called Shawarma. I guess when this guy started a couple of decades ago, noone knew WTF Shawarma was so he just called it Gyro in order to create a sense of familiarity in his customers.

Anyone know the recipe for the white sauce? I know it's top secret, but has anyone come even close to the recipe??? PLEASEEE!

ok soo at 7:30 the real halal guys are next to that deli. and in the morning the halal guys are in the other sidee.

gyro guy is the best, hands down. I never care about the wait, as long as I get my combination platter, some hot sauce and a cold drink
