Thrand and his assistant Eldgrimr, demonstrate how inaccurate the Viking vs. Samurai episode of Deadliest Warrior on Spike TV was, and how historically accurate the information is that Thrand and Agonios posted on the Viking vs. Samurai blog. In this video Thrand and Tommy display a wide range of Viking skills that prove beyond a reasonable doubt that a Viking is superior, provided he is properly armed and adept, when facing a Samurai opponent in single combat. Skill sets addressed in this video include, sword and shield style fighting style versus katana, naginata, and kanabo, javelin charge against a Samurai archer, javelin and throwing axe techniques, various sword and axe cuts, Danish great axe maneuvers versus the naginata, spear catching, and others that prove a Viking was a martial artist. Watch, learn from us, laugh with us, and above all else please leave comments, rate us, and send Spike TV's Deadliest Warrior an email asking for a rematch of Viking vs. Samurai. send your complaints about the Viking versus Samurai episode to deadliestwarrior@spiketv.com

  • 1; A Katana will not become lodged in a shield of that type unless the user is incredibly unskilled.

2; A Samurai would move tot he side of your shield when you attacked and strike, not stand there and attack a shield like a moron.

3; Your Axe vs Naginata display was foolish. A samurai would have his sword on his hip, and in the event you managed to pin his Naginata without cutting your foot off, would draw and strike before you readied your axe for another swing.

  • 1. The Samurai would be fighting with the Yari,Naginata or Kamayari. Not the Katana it was a back up. Kamayari being best against shield.

  • @chiapetzorz 2.The viking would use the same movement style of the Samurai. The Samurai trying to hide behind the Round shield would not allow him to attack the viking and not hinder the Vikings attack

  • @chiapetzorz 3.The tactic I used was also a Budo/samurai tactic to pin a weapon to the ground with ones foot. The foot would not be cut.The Samurai would use sword and shield not axe in most cases.

  • @chiapetzorz 4. Against the Samurai a sword and shield wielding Viking would never have used the Dane axe.Against a mounted samurai yes it was used to hook riders off and kill horses.

  • @chiapetzorz Samurai were normally mounted as well.Samurai arts are the way of the horse and bow.

  • the fact that this video has been made proves that the viking spirit is well alive, and spirit alone can resist, defeat and conquer its foes.

  • Deadliest Warrior was one of those ridiculous shows made purely for entertainment - they cared more about cool factor and making their target group of viewers (teenage boys) happy than being accurate.

  • Why am I watching his?

  • May i suggest the cold steel range of training weapons, they work really well for sparring

  • I apologise for my comment, ive been watching your other vids and have learnt your a skilled experienced swordsman, deeply sorry, i wrongly assumed you were just another idiot who didnt know what he was talking about, again deeply sorry for my ignorance and i enjoy watching your vids. :)

  • I agree with your points, but do you have any idea how sharp even a badly made katana is, in reference to the sword getting stuck in the shield, a real katana would slice that shield up. Also a samurai warrior is going to be much more skilled than someone wo is 'used to usig katanas,' i mean come on this is very biased video

  • @chiapetzorz It was demo not a fight by any means. Please watch my Spartan Vs. Samurai / Ninja here on Youtube. I practice Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu. Meaning I have knowledge of both sides and have fought this fight from both sides the Viking Style has the advantage. This does not mean the Samurai Can not win but out of 1000 fights the Viking style would most likely win more often.Sword and shield was not given credit in the fake simulation off DW period. The experts were not experts.
