Among the 13,728 questions submitted to the White House's open call for questions for President Obama to address during his online town hall, more than a few of the most popular were about legalizing marijuana -- a topic that seems to come up frequently whenever politicians poll the Web public for questions.

In fact, the top six questions in the popular "Budget" category, as well as top questions in the "Health Care Reform" and "Green Jobs" categories addressed pot and drug legalization.

Excerpt from meeting: THE PRESIDENT: Can I just interrupt, Jared, before you ask the next question, just to say that we -- we took votes about which questions were going to be asked and I think 3 million people voted or -- DR. BERNSTEIN: Three point five million. THE PRESIDENT: Three point five million people voted. I have to say that there was one question that was voted on that ranked fairly high and that was whether legalizing marijuana would improve the economy -- (laughter) -- and job creation. And I don't know what this says about the online audience -- (laughter) -- but I just want -- I don't want people to think that -- this was a fairly popular question; we want to make sure that it was answered. The answer is, no, I don't think that is a good strategy -- (laughter) -- to grow our economy. (Applause.)

  • What we need is for people to truly learn what this plant can do, I'm sure the audience at Obama's rally were privy to the cancer bit and how it helps AIDS patients. It's not our government's fault for this reform not to happen, it's the people. What we need is education and for people to be more respectful when it comes to marijuana we have people who are still in the reefer madness age, and they raise their kids accordingly. Respect goes to the ganja, may legalization come soon

  • @Arkayem actually, that's incorrect.

-You win the election, the coorprorations and billionares that financed your campaign run the country.

  • The saddest part of Obama's response is the fact he won because of the people who's on the internet. And now he mocks them?

  • @rovibe If you are worried about car accidents, then we should ban alcohol. WAIT! WE DID! And what was the result? The criminals got rich, and everyone drank anyway, except the drink became MORE dangerous! Tens of thousands die from smoking every year. Thousands die from alcohol. NOT ONE PERSON HAS EVER DIED AS A DIRECT RESULT OF USING POT. You can't OD on it! It's not even addictive! And just because a person uses pot does not mean they are on welfare. Stop stereotyping.

  • @Rommel266 could not agree with you more
