Daniel Ellsberg discusses how "winning" in Vietnam was defined while he was working in the State Department.

In 1971, Daniel Ellsberg risked his freedom and his life by leaking a top secret report about the Vietnam war to members of Congress and various news outlets. This report, which became known as the Pentagon Papers, changed the course of history and led to the resignation of Richard Nixon and the end of the Vietnam War. Ellsberg is the subject of a new documentary by Judith Ehrlich and Rick Goldsmith called "The Most Dangerous Man in America: Daniel Ellsberg and the Pentagon Papers."

On September 24, 2009, I had the great honor of interviewing Ellsberg in Los Angeles.

  • Ellsberg is an intelligent person. He doesn't do patriotism, because he's above that. Patriotism blocks out different points of view because "you can not think like them!".

Patriotism has never made the entire world a better place to live in.

Saying your country is the best in the world doesn't make it the best country in the world. Although when you say something a lot, eventually you just might start believing it.

*awaits trolling from the most patriotic buttheads out there*

  • Ellsberg ... is a "real" patriot
