Maine Eastern Railroad Train No. 002 cruises into the Bath, ME train station a good 12 minutes late today. Track and Bridge work on the Kennebec River Bridge (Rail), which is adjacent ot the Route 1 bridge and about 1/4 miles from the Bath Iron Works caused a slight track delay. Note the maintenance rail-trucks pulling onto the siding to make room for the train.

Today and for the past few weeks, the railroad has been using its Ex-Amtrak EMD GP9, usually used on its local freight operations, for its daily excursion trains to augment its FL9, No. 489, on the line's slippery gradients. The 488 was broken and in the Rockland shops at the time of this video, and was scheduled to be taken down to Morristown, where the line's operator, Morristown and Erie, is headquartered.

  • @GP9railfan woohoo!:)

  • @tpvalley @tpvalley Close. Not heating, but power HEP = Head End Power. They're basically generators for the passenger cars, & there's 1 in the rear of each engine. Yes, 3 axle truck in the rear on the FL9's due to the 3rd rail power pickups that used to be in there. FL9's are getting more & more rare every for every year goes by. There's only a handful still in service, & Maine eastern has 2 of them.

  • @GP9railfan

    modern trucks aswell.

    whats HEP's?

    electric heating?

  • @tpvalley Yes they've both had their 3rd rail systems removed. They replaced the 3rd rail equipment with HEP's in their place (in the rear of the engines).

Yes, the FL9's are starting to becoming a rare sight now that Conn DOT is sadly phasing their fleet out of service. Most have been re-located to museums, or other railroads already.
