If I'm not mistaken it was the top seller in Japan when released. Evolution of automobiles is here and the day has come. It's the cheapest hybrid available in the world and very fuel efficient, great car.

The Insight was the first hybrid introduced in the US. Japan typically will test newer models there first before exporting them to other countries. I just wish people would stop trying to compare the Insight to the Prius. Yes they look similar but that is where the similarities end. As for the AC. If is real hot outside then the gas engine won't shut off no matter if it is in Econ mode or not. It will come back on if the temp in the car climbs to high. Which the driver can set the halo.

prius was first made in japan in 98 and came to us in 2000 as the 2001 model

you mean the prius looks like the insight. The Insight came first, then toyota prius copied them. Then the insight was discontinued and now it came back.
