A tribute to the Disney Movie TRON: Legacy. All original computer animation of a Recognizer designed with virtual LEGO® components.
The fully functional model (not a flying toy though) was designed with LEGO's LDD (Lego Digital Designer) Software on a Mac. Bricksmith and L3P were used to convert the data to POVRAY. The scene files have been re-programmed by hand to create "glow" effect and movements.
"When I first heard that Disney® was making a new TRON® Movie I could not even imagine that it would be a true sequel. And I had no idea that the Soundtrack would inspire me in the way it did. I was very impressed with the overall look and especially the music. It was something I've never heard before. Symphonic orchestra combined with synthesizers and electronic / digitally enhanced sounds and instruments. I had the soundtrack CD before I owned the DVD/BlueRay combo and was immediately addicted. When I first listened to the RECOGNIZER [Track 4, OST] it had been over 2 months since I had seen the movie. It immediately brought back a mental image of the tremendous scene in the movie where Sam first arrives in the TRON world and gets picked up by the RECOGNIZER vehicle. The music truly carried the visuals and created an overall feeling of awe. Watching this scene and listening to the music still creates the same reaction in me. I can't remember any other soundtrack or movie that impressed me this deeply. Since I was a teenager I was facinated by TRON (the original from 1982) and its computer generated world. Over the years I learned how to use several 3D design programs and the first objects I designed with them were Lightcycles and Recognizers. To create this video I combined all my self-taught skills in 3D Design, Programming, Raytracing, Video Editing and my childhood love for creating LEGO® models."

Great design! I noticed that you didn't use any subdivision on the curved shapes. Was this to save on render time?

@EnterTheMindzi
Thanks! Some parts didn't have a native counter part in the lgeo library (This is a collection of lego bricks natively designed for the renderer POVRay). The converter l3p can translate LDraw data (Bricksmith) using this special lgeo lib. but if there are parts that are not in there it simply converts only the wireframe from the LDraw library. It seems like the normals (3D information necessary for curved surfaces) get lost in translation. This way it's more digital TRONlike :-)

I would totally buy it (either the real bricks or as a game). But why does the recognizers smile?

@IvyTinwe
Hey there! The Recognizer "smiles" in the movie too. Just a little more sinister and evil. Check out the screen shot on my flickr page. Just go to flickr.com and search for "Recognizer_Smile". The front opening is the mouth, the alcoven for the people are the teeth. The eyes are there two, but mine have a slightly different shape.
