Re: Fiona Apple :: Across The Universe

Hey everyone! This is a music video that and some friends and I put together for our lit. final. It features Fiona Apple's cover of Across The Universe, originally a Beatles tune.

Just some backround on the project...
I knew about the music video assignment well before it was assigned and had set my mind on this song way back then. I got the track from a mentor and a close friend, Jared, and just fell in love with it instantly.
I had no idea where the cover was from until we watched Pleasantville in the same lit. class. When the song came on in the movie I was taken by surprise and asked to watch the actual music video after class. But after that I hadn't watched the video during any of the brainstorming, filming, or editing...until the end. Attempting to get a head start, I tried brainstorming for the video but no ideas surfaced on my own. Then of course the assignment was finally announced and Joyce, Katie and I became a film group. I introduced them to the song and told them I'd like to use it, and they agreed. After that the three of us started shooting out so many great ideas and came up with the story, symbolism, and many connections to the lyrics and music.
Wrote the script...started filming editing(yeah iMovie) when each piece of footage from a certain location was complete. Then finally presented and turned in this final draft. When I was close to the final video I took a peek at the original music video and it was interesting to see the similarity of the opening shots.
Anyways, I really hope that you enjoy this film. This is my first serious attempt at directing and editing a music video, and I've really grown to love the process. Obviously I'm no pro, still have the same limitations as any other high school kid with a camera and computer, but I'm glad how it turned out. P.S. I would like to dedicate this video to our lit. teacher Ms. Silberman and my good friend Jared whom both I look up to and have taught me countless things about being proud of I am and what I can do. Thank you both very much.
