  • In the sense that UNSCOM disarmed it. In the sense that western intelligence agencies confirmed Iran as fundamentally disarmed. And as confirmed as not a threat by its Neighbours. And as confirmed in speeches by Colin Powell and Condeleeza Rice as being disarmed prior to 911. Iraq was a defenceless enemy sitting on the world's second largest oil reserves. What happened would be understandable to a 12 year old and Iraq as a threat was absurd.

  • Iran is not in breach of the non-proliferation treaty. It is not for the US or the UK to MANDATE they are in breach. It is for the IAEA and the UN security council. There is currently no justification for military action against Iran. Of course the US and the UK would love to blow the shite out of Iran. But that just shows who is the actual aggressor. The problem is that Iran is NOT completely defenceless. attacking it will have serious costs. The US and the UK only attack the defenceless.

  • I also heard it in connection to Iraq and that was nonsense as well. There are WMD in the middle east and Iran is mostly surrounded by them and their enemies. If ever a country needed WMD to protect itself then Iran is a good case. However, intelligence assessments show that it's weaponised nuclear programme was stopped in 2003.

  • It is US,UK and Israel threatening military action not Iran. I am a UK citizen and so I have a RESPONSIBILITY for UK action and I do not support military action against Iran and I did not in what became the disaster of Iraq. And your comment about sweatshops being a sign of historical progress requires no further comment from me....!

  • No not bullshit! Simple facts! Saudi Arabia is a close ally of the west. The gulf emirates are close allies of the west. The states have appalling human rights records far worse than Iran. Indonesia has an appalling history of human rights abuses. It invaded East Timor killing 30% of the population and brutally occupying the country for 30 years! Iran has invaded who recently? Simple straightforward facts. However, facts for Cohen, along with most mainstream journos, are irrelevant!

  • bull shit

  • These are spurious arguments from Cohen. The most awful countries for the rights of women are those supported by the west. Saudi, the gulf emirates and principalities spring to mind. And that is before one considers "free market" allies in the far east where sweat shops are packed with women. These countries make Iran look like a free-swinging liberal democracy! OK Nick, condemn Iran! Now what?

  • Yes, he is a much more lucid writer than speaker
