Barrel Racing at the Fort Worth Rodeo January 21, 2007

Rodeo Girl

The click of her boots caused heads to turn,
Her denim jeans made every man yearn,
In a cowboy hat and a great big smile,
She entered the race in rodeo style.

She mounted her horse, a beautiful mare,
Entered in the gate with a special flair;
The gate opened, she seemed to fly,
She rode like the wind across the sky,

The first barrel past, two to go,
Her sure footed steed seemed to know.
A roar from the crowd cheered her on,
She was one with her mount, the Mighty Cyclone;

The last barrel leaned, seemed to tip,
It righted again and she let it rip;
With flaring nostrils and ears laid back,
Cyclone stormed down the last track.

The roar was deafening as she flailed her crop,
Hair streaming, she was over the top;
In perfect form she won the race,
Our Rodeo Girl who rides with such grace.

Thanks for the comment. Sorry, about all I know about barrel racing is that I enjoy watching it. It's been years since I've been on a horse and I've never been in a barrel race. Wish I could help. Good luck!

@Cobietotallyrox i can help ya there just take it easy with your horse turns with ur hands that would be close to the barrel make sure he/she is good with leg pressure for sure work your horse real slow into it only run your horse bout every other day maybe 3 times at the most dont want them to get sour on barrels if u need help with any horse training at all let me know or anyone on here that would like to start racing :) im more then happy to help anyone

@Cobietotallyrox keep on doing it and practiceing it with your horse.

slower at first then as the horse gets better, go a little faster at running.

@ShinyPonyPrincess If the horse was suffering then why do they enjoy doing what they do? when you ride english you use crops too. I respect all diciplins as i used to ride english myself but now i ride western and i barrel race, mostly cause my horse loves it and i love it to.

But, I've been too many big shows and western is just as picky in outfits (bling shirts cost hundreds), saddles and the arenas have to be super well done. I ride western, I do rodeo events so I'm not bagging it. However, I also have lot of RESPECT for other disciplines b/c they are awesome :)

@caitywood386 yeah, i think people say that because in most english events you have to have the right clothes and the right tack all in tip top shape, while in western it's alittle more about just safety.

@JustHorsinAround24 good point, I actuallly thought most endurance riders used english or I thought there is an endurance type saddle....but I was stating that english is not for "city ppl who don't want to get dirty" they have extremely challenging events too :)

@caitywood386 in endurance you can use any saddle and any riding style. it's not just for english riders!
