Based on a short story by W S Gilbert, the idea of a "new" G & S opera was hatched by Jeff Clarke, founder of the small-scale opera company Opera della Luna.
Jeff Clarke wrote new lyrics using melodies from Arthur Sullivan's ballets and theatre incidental music, and based the book on a short story by W.S. Gilbert.
