This Border Collie, Blue, was born on the Island of Taransay during the making of the original BBC TV series 'Castaway'.
He came into Border Collie Rescue care at 6 months old and is now nearly 7.
With the agreement of his old owner and new owner we are able to make his case public.
The Border Collie is designed to be a sheepdog and was originally used for herding livestock in the English and Scottish Borders. Border Collie Rescue assesses all dogs coming into our care for herding ability and will rehome them as stockdogs if that is what they need to do but we also assess and rehome for scent discrimination skills to the Police, Prison Service and Excise to detect drugs, explosives and firearms -- to SARDA and other rescue organisations for mountain rescue and search and rescue work -- to help deaf, blind or otherwise disabled people as well as for working trials, flyball, agility, obedience and other interactive sporting disciplines and many of our dogs have qualified for Crufts in these disciplines. Those that show us they do not need or want to work are rehomed as PAT dogs, pets and companions.
"Rescue" doesn't mean the dog is a rescue dog. Border Collie Rescue is a group of people that rescue Border Collies and find new and appropriate homes for them. There are rescue groups for almost any breed of dog in many different countries. They are dedicated dog lovers! Andy K.

Great story with a lovely happy ending - lucky Blue to have found such a great place and a good family to live with and he is obviously a great worker too.

Aww I'm glad Blue has found a really good home where he will be happy and be able to herd the farm animals.

Interesting - a celebrity dog! I saw the series and wondered what had happened to the pups that were born on the Island.
