Are you sure about those speed stats? According to this video in its entirety (with the narration), the Rothman's Porsches were clocked at 246mph down the Mulsanne in 1983. BTW - this clip is taken from an awesome movie - "Onboard 956," in which Derek Bell and the Rothman's Porsche take 2 laps on many of the world's famous circuits, including the Nurburgring, Spa, and of course (here) La Sarthe. First lap is normal, second is narrated.

the 917L of 1971 was timed at 262 mph on the mulsane driven by jackie oliver which still stands as the record at any circuit in the world
