That makes sense.
So that's why musicians are in a seperate room then the engineer.

If the headphones are plugged into the mixer the sound would still come out of the speakers. So, the headphones would have to plugged into the speaker to kill the audio so the mic won't pick up the audio?
If that's true, how can the engineer hear what's going on if there's no audio coming out of the speakes during the recording?

@Thouchins You either put the musician in another room, or the engineer needs to where headphones too. And just turn off the speakers if you don't want to hear them.

why do I need headphones?
I'm using a mixer that plugs into my PC and I connect my instruments to the mixer.
The multi-track software on my PC records what ever instrument I'm playing and everything is played back out of my monitor speakers.
If I hook up my headphones to the mixer, I then can't hear what's coming out of the monitors. Is there a way that I can get my monitor audio to go from the PC to the mixer and not the monitors?

@Thouchins You need headphones because when you're recording a vocal track, if the speakers are on you'll record the sound of the speakers as well as your voice. headphones keep this from happening

if singer wants to hear reverb in headphone mix but you dont want to record voal with reverb how do you do that

@Chillylion The reverb never gets recorded. You can use a TON of reverb, and then get rid of it later if you want.
