    It's a reference to the original version of this experiment where people were asked to watch a video of some basketball players and count the passes, during the video a gorilla walks into frame, waves and walks off (approximately 9 seconds), following the video people are asked if they saw the gorilla. Hardly anyone ever does, even those expecting it.
