Some thoughts on my visit to Grants Tobacconist in San Francisco and also in response to DunhillmanUK, my "3 Favorite Pipe Tobaccos of 2011".

  • I think the winner of that contest was "Blackhouse", I've still not had the opportunity to try either one yet

  • @GTXDaze101 You are correct sir. Russ Ouelette from Hearth & Home won the Judge's votes at the "Balkan Throwdown" in Chicago back in May and later marketed and sold the blend he created as "Blackhouse". Mike McNeil from McClelland won the People's Choice vote and then sold his blend as Blue Mountain.

  • Great choices. I have a tin of Blue Mountain but haven't tried it yet. Still haven't quite acquired the Night Cap flavour yet, but still trying.

    Cheers.

  • @thvisualstenographer Funny thing is, I actually liked Nightcap MORE after trying some other Dunhill blends. I really only like Morning Pipe and Nightcap. Found My Mixture to be a bit harsh and Royal Yacht is basically an Orlik Viriginia mixture.

  • Ah, that's the place! I think it might have been the owner that threw me the deal. I think he just wanted to sell something and could see I needed a little prompting. So great to see all those great blends. I can look at tins (or bottles of wine, liquor) in shops for hours.

  • @OTooleRules Awesome!

  • Cool video. Thanks for sharing your tour. I bet the tins are expensive.

  • great choices my friend

nightcap is such a great tobacco

    thanks for your response

    keep em smoking

  • That tobacco shop sounds and looks like my kind of place! Its great a B&M can hang around that long, must be doing something right. I think my heart would have skipped a beat when I saw that Penzance (score!) lol Cool Comoy banner too, great tour. The Blue Mountain is high on my list. But I'm going to hold out for the re release of Balkan Sobranie when its a little easier to obtain.

    Cheers,

    James

  • @truckpipe Like I said, if that stuff helps keep them in business then I'm all for it. I hate seeing tobacconists close up.
