A hand-cranked paper movie made by the students of Gustavus School in Gustavus, Alaska. The script is based on interviews I conducted with all 50 students in the school while participating in the Artists in Schools Program. I asked the students how they would describe their community to someone from a different country. I organized their comments into this narrative. (The music is a minimalist improvisation on the notes of the open strings of a violin performed by Andrew McDonough and Jeb Cozby. The narrators are Rowan Sharman and Abbey VandenBerg.)
Artists in Schools is a program of the Alaska State Council on the Arts, with support from the Alaska State Legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
