Mennonites gather outside the delegate hall at Columbus, OH for an impromptu hymn sing July '09. Sponsored by the Pink Menno Campaign (http://pinkmennocapmpaign.ning.com/), the hymn sings drew diverse and enthusiastic crowds. Singing breaks down barriers and gives us a common voice! We're singing "The love of God." Interestingly, the third verse of the hymn is taken from a verse in the Koran.
Verse 3: Could we with ink the ocean fill, and were the skies of parchment made,
Were every stalk of earth a quill, and every man a scribe by trade
To write the love of God above would drain the ocean dry
Nor could the scroll contain the whole, though stretched from sky to sky.
Compare that with Surah 31:27: If all the trees of the earth were pens, and the sea, replenished by seven more seas, were ink, the words of God could not be finished still.
Mennonites have been singing from the Koran for generations--now THAT'S incredible!
Menno Simons would have had a few words for this bunch.

@SeekYeFirst1 I agree. He'd say, "You are brave and courageous, young Pink Mennos, to stand up to the established church and church tradition and question injustice and inequality. You know, I did the same thing. And people called me a heretic and a rebel and there was a price on my head for doing so. You are the children of peace. Your hearts overflow with peace. Your mouths speak peace, and you walk in the way of peace." THATS what Menno Simons would say to "this bunch." ~Peace!
