I really like Contraptor - it's a fantastic idea. Those RepRap drivers sound fairly horrific though. I think I'd rather use some micro-stepping drivers.

I agree, the sound could be better. RepRap board only supports half-stepping at the moment. Keep in mind though - the stepper is $10, the board is $25 (kit) and open source.

Also, the set is modular and extensible, so any NEMA23 with alternative electronics are welcomed

Yeah, it needs up/down electromagnet head like plotters have. It was a demo/test of the belt drive for the Contraptor project

@karandex For anyone new coming in, RepRap RAMPS 1.3 electronics uses Pololu drivers with up to 1/16 stepping and is said to be FAR quieter.
