Departing ORD 4L on United 578, Boeing 757, ORD-BOS, 6/29/2010

We exit the south side of the United terminal area and double back towards the north complex. ORD was running departures on 4L and arrivals on 9R so there was a lot of "shooting the gap" between landings. Also notice that they were feeding 4L from both sides so that they could space out departures in the various directions.

  • Good job on capturing the O'Hare experience :D

  • @N734NJ Wait until I post the one where we landed on the new north runway and taxied for 15 minutes to get around to the south side of the terminal. Now THAT is the O'hare experience!

  • @IADaveMark ....did you upload that one yet? just wondering

  • @airplanecrazy1989 Oh... sorry I did not.

  • @IADaveMark How did you get the ATC? Scanner?

  • @mikezc128 Can't remember if this was off of United's famous "channel 9" on board or if I pulled it from LiveATC.net the next day. I've done both.

  • very very awesome video ! and very good sound quality ! it's one of the best ones I've seen in a good while on youtube ! good job !

  • @alcheng1000 I know that the ILS hold lines are so that taxiing aircraft don't interfere with the signals. You can find the definitions of Cat 1/2/3 on wikipedia under ILS. I'm not sure why the would be on the runway signs.

  • A quick curiosity here:

I've seen some of the runway holding signs (maybe not in US but elsewhere around the world) labeled with the runway number and CAT I/II/III (e.g. 27R CAT I/II/III). What's the purpose of the "CAT I/II/III" part?
