NICOLE RICHIE, and JOEL MADDEN
GIVE CLINIC FAMILIES A BOOST AT SURPRISE BABY SHOWER!
On Monday, December 3, 2007, Nicole Richie and Joel Madden launched the
Richie-Madden Children's Foundation with a surprise baby shower brunch for
new and expecting moms enrolled in The Cradle Project at The Hollywood Health
Center.
The Cradle Project is a partnership with the Obstetrics and Gynecology
Department at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center targeting uninsured women, including
those with high-risk factors for premature births and high-risk pregnancies.
The Cradle Project provides pregnant women with health education, nutrition
counseling, psychosocial support, parenting classes, family planning, and medical
care. Besides caring for the young women and their babies, The Cradle Project
guides them to community support programs, including job training and education,
to help them become self-sufficient.
Each mother was gifted with a complete nursery including a crib, baby mattress,
stroller, blankets, bottles, a high chair, diapers, organic baby products, books,
clothing and much more.
"We visited The Cradle Project at The Los Angeles Free Clinic to learn about the
extraordinary work they were doing to help families in need," stated Nicole and Joel.
"We were struck by the challenges facing these new moms and wanted to help give
their children a great start in life, relieve some of their financial burdens and offer
these moms a chance to celebrate. We were thrilled to be able to surprise these
families and their reactions were even more than we could have hoped for."
Sponsors include thebabycenter.com, JCPenney, Graco, Fisher-Price, Simmons
Bedding Company and collections of organic baby products to nurture both mommy
and baby.
