~June, 2008~ (three years ago)

Ashley's POV:
"YAY FOR SUMMER!!!" said my crazy best friend, Leslie, who I've known since kindergarten. We were riding home from our last day of 7th grade in the back seat of my mom's silver Volvo, with my younger brother, Caleb, riding shotgun. We all went to the same school, since we went to a private school that was a combined elementary and middle school.
"You can say that again!" Caleb said "I'm going to be a FIFTH grader next year." He stared off out the window, imagining being a big, tough fifth grader. Leslie and I rolled our eyes at each other, making fun of my little brother.

Leslie's POV:
We pulled into mine and Ashley's neighborhood; we were next door neighbors, and that's one of the reasons we had been so close for so long. When we pulled into the driveway of my house (which is pretty big, they're rich :P), we both made a beeline for my room, after saying thank you and goodbye to Mrs. Robinson. We pulled out our 'secret' composition notebook titled "FALEO" (for Ashley and Leslie's eyes only). It had every one our secrets in it, ranging in topic from boys to drama at school to our parents. We flipped through the pages until we arrived at the page titled "Plans: Summer '08!" We pointed at each one and giggled, imagining them all in our head. One said, in Leslie's bubbly handwriting, 'The usual, week at the beach! Maybe meet some guys there, too!' We both smiled, excited for our annual beach trip that took place the following week. As we were sitting there, we could hear my dad come in from work.
"Hey dad," I called, but he was on the phone. Of course.
"Who is he ALWAYS on the phone with lately?" Ashley asked me. I got so annoyed thinking about it.
"Ugh. My uncle in Georgia. He is SO excited, he found some lame kid who sings on YouTube, and suddenly had this dream of becoming like a musician's manager or something. And he's been calling my dad asking for moola. I just think he's gone crazy. This kid is obviously going nowhere, he has no future! I mean, c'mon, he sounds like a girl!" I laughed as I told her about "Justin," this kid my uncle was so obsessed with recently.
"Oh," she replied, laughing a little, "Let's watch a video of him?"
I decided to show her a video, since she's never heard of him. I pulled up a video on YouTube of him singing 'With You' by Chris Brown.

Ashley's POV:
"Yeah, so then we can make fun of him together!" I laughed, preparing myself for the video. I watched her click on the thumbnail...hey that boy was actually pretty cute. But, I hadn't heard him sing yet. But when I had...he was actually REALLY good. Why did Leslie think he sucked so bad?
"How awful was THAT," Leslie said, laughing at the boy on the screen."
I decided to tell her my honest opinion.
"Well...I thought he was really good to tell you the truth."
"Wow, really?" she said. "I thought he sounded like a girl. But we all have our opinions."
We changed the subject and talked about other things for another hour or two.
Then suddenly, Leslie's dad knocked on the door.
"Hey, Leslie? Ash?" he called through the door.
"Yeah, we're in here dad," Leslie replied. He opened the door and poked his head in.
"Can I talk to you for a sec, Leslie?"
"Be right back," she told me, then followed him out and into the kitchen. All alone, I sighed and flipped through the pages of FALEO, recalling all of the good, fun memories.
After about 5 minutes, Leslie walked back in, crying and looking frustrated. She slammed the door behind her.
"What's wro-" I started, but she jumped face first onto her bed before I could finish.
After a few seconds, she pulled her head up and told me, "My dad, Ash. He's....UGH."
"He's what Leslie?? Talk to me, it's gonna be ok," I tried to calm her down.
"No its NOT gonna be ok. My dad is...buying into uncle Scooter's whole dumb idea. And now he's giving him money to support him. I'm moving. To Atlanta," she explained, then threw her face back into her pillow.
"What??" I almost yelled. How could this be happening? This HAD to be some kind of joke. "There's no way."
"There is Ash, and it's happening. My life is going to be RUINED," she said.
