The Bible doesn't say 'thou shalt not kill'. It is full of super killings, most initiated by the author. It actually says' thou shalt not murder'. Thou shall not murder. This is more accurate because the Hebrew word so translated does not refer to killing in general but to malicious and unlawful killing.

People have always, and will always engage in violence. Particularly, it seems, when there is religion of any kind involved

I agree with you for the most part. It seems to me, anyone leader who is so willing to embrace war really misconstrues the commandments to men. Thou shalt not kill. It is what it is. If you kill, you've sinned. Whether it is war or not. Doesn't matter if they kill us. There is no excuse, and no explanation offered to interpret it by any means. If you're pro war, you can't be a Christian. It's as simple as that.

those people died for their country by their choose and died with honor. John McCain is a good man and u make him sound so horrible. u have a good point with the "Thou Shall Not Kill". i watched a video last night on section 60 and it made me think about the people i know and love and what i would do if someday i was to come across their grave in arlington. First i would ask myself why they had to die and then i would see that it was their choice to go and they died with honor for their county.
