Frances Perkins was the only woman in President Franklin D. Roosevelt's cabinet and one of his close friends. As an architect of the New Deal, she designed the mechanisms the country uses to recover from financial calamity and created the social safety net that is helping to minimize the damage to Americans today. In this presentation author Kirstin Downey discusses her book "The Woman Behind the New Deal." May 27, 2010, Smithsonian National Postal Museum
