Meades revisits the places his father took him to as a child in the hope that they may shed some light on the very obsession they fomented.
Nostalgic? Certainly. And literally too - in that it evinces a longing for a lost home. Sentimental? Hardly.

  • Personally I think this is Jonathan Meades best documentary...probably because it principally concerns himself. So rather than imposing his own unique view on periods, styles and architectures beyond his time he can comment without resorting to the position of polemiscist which, lets face it, is simply a way of imposing individuality upon events rather than have them impose upon you. Here the subject is the self so there is no need for this and consequently is more informative.
