The true-life story of Barbara Hoffman, is complex and contradictory in every sense,
she was both a brilliant biochemistry student at the University of Wisconsin and Madisons most notorious
prostitute.
On a frigid, twenty-two below zero Christmas morning, Barbara Hoffmans (Thora Birch) distraught young fiancé, Jerry Davies (Brendan Sexton III) lead police investigators to a corpse, which only hours before, he had buried in a snow
bank. Lead by Detective Lulling (Academy Award winner Keith Carradine), the police investigators uncover the naked
and brutally bludgeoned body of Harry Berge. Davies desperately insists that
he is not a murderer and that he and Hoffman are guilty only of burying the
corpse of a stranger.




Shades of film noir blend with true crime, as Barbara Hoffman lives out her days in prison, refusing to give interviews or even go before the parole board.

@mistyaaa i totally agree, i actually fell asleep each time I watched it. The lack of background really kills the movie. The best part was seeing thora, but she couldnt save the movie. They should have made the movie loosely based on the case the way producers did the movie To Die For w/ nicole kidman

@millennialgirl Thank you for the information. It was truly an interesting case but I couldn't get into the movie. I felt like I needed more at the end. I didn't really get to see her as the character but perhaps that was intentional.

@mistyaaa yeah I found that same info too. She is now out of prison, engaged and has either an infant or small child. She has changed her name and lives outside the U.S, I think Canada. I really wish we could get an interview. I think she is just a borderline personality. The obsession w/ the case stemmed from her academic background and alleged beauty. They don't even have decent photos of her. We forget that personality disorders can affect anyone, even attractive people.
