Sorry, i wasn't clear when I said when people see them. I should have said when they are revealed. I also agreed that we do not have an inate moral opposition to theft. It is something that comes with an understanding of property and the consequences of the theft (punishment or hardship to the victim).

(cont'd re: sociopaths) Most people DO NOT recognize them when they see them because they are usu. glib and good at fooling people. They're extreme narcissists w/o empathy or conscience.

On the contrary, people need to be taught not to "nick" stuff. Ask any parent of a child between the ages of 2 and 11. If we don't learn that the momentary satisfaction of opportunistic theft is not worth the consequences of having a guilty conscience, then we're likely to justify gaming the moral system when we grow up. As 4 sociopaths, they're INCREDIBLY manipulative.

Generally sociopaths are very rare and the vast majority of people recognise that they are wrong thinkers when then see them. Theft is a different kettle of fish as it arrises long after or primate brains are shaped. You need property to have theft and that has been a human invention. People tend to know its not ok to nick stuff but they will do it if they judge that the loss will not endanger the victem and if they think they can get away with it.
