Starsuckers is a feature documentary about the celebrity obsessed media, that uncovers the real reasons behind our addiction to fame and blows the lid on the corporations and individuals who profit from it. Made by the same team behind BAFTA nominated Taking Liberties, it will be released in cinemas on the 30th October - unless Rupert Murdoch shuts us down first. Or Max Clifford. And perhaps Bob Geldof.
Made completely independently over 2 years in secret, the film journeys through the dark underbelly of the modern media. Using a combination of never before seen footage, undercover reporting, stunts and animation, the film reveals the toxic effect the media is having on us all and especially our children. It shows how truth has become a distant memory in the modern news and climaxes with a shocking and startling revelation of just how bad things can get when we let entertainment reach out into politics and charity.
The first rule of working in the media is - do not critisise the media. Well, we've decided to break this golden rule, and if we ever work in this town again we won't have done our jobs properly. A film so controversial it will never be shown uncut on TV, and will pull the rug underneath a string of untouchables.
Starsuckers opens 30th October

On October 23rd 2009, the makers of Starsuckers reported that they had received an email from the law firm Carter-Ruck, acting on behalf of Max Clifford and threatening them with an injunction over their film
I wonder what exactly is this filmmaker attempting to accomplish. Are they truly "informing" or merely attempting to induce guilt in people if one does enjoy entertainment and celebrity news? Most of us, I believe, know the diff between fantasy and reality and it's very insulting and condescending to imply "we" don't.
Off course there's nothing wrong with enjoying entertainment and celebrity news. But do you honestly think that 110% its your choice? A lot of people don't realise how powerful the media is. Yeah, it doesn't make us stupid to sumbscome to it, but a lot of the time we don't realise switching on the TV and watching something isn't entirely our own choice, more often than not somehow somewhere down the line the media has influenced us to watch that, even if its only subconciously.
And yes, there are some some who are probably more suggestable, but I'd say the vast majority of us are pretty discerning. I know I am...but then I'm not a big TV watcher, so that probably helps lol
Whenever I see those tabloids in the supermarket with their outrageous headlines, I just sit there and laugh. Hard to believe some people actually think it's the truth when it's so obvious a pic is photoshopped or the headline is exaggerated. *shaking head*
That's entirely true. I don't know if this is what you meant exactly, but one example is how celebs and models are photoshopped. Girls starve themselves to look that thin ; they spend money on makeup to look that pretty ; they have low self esteem because of it and its not right. Does the media not believe that by using real models and not photoshopping things they won't be sucessful? I for one would rather by a product advertised by someone real rather then someone fake.
