'We are the University' movement occupied the University of Auckland Business School (Owen G Glen Building) for around four hours. Police arrived around 6pm, and at around 6.15 the protesters left the building.
One protester (who was apparently not a student of the University) was arrested and put into the police vehicle. The protesters surrounded the car to try and stop it from leaving, but were dispersed by other officers.
Though it appeared that the protest would have ended soon after, the arrest sparked anger at the police and the protesters followed the police to the Auckland Central Police station to continue the demonstration.
They were met at the police station by around 20 police guarding the street-level entrance. Stopping at the intersection of Mayoral Drive and Vincent Street, the protestors sat in the middle of the street for around half an hour, disrupting traffic flow.
While the protesters were in the intersection, the group of police at the street level entrance grew as the roller doors were closed behind them. A second group of around 15-20 police assembled at the Mayoral Drive entrance, and a third group of around 6-8 waited on the opposite side of the intersection.
Now that's a small crowd!
