Michael Kadie of SSI Racing has totally greened up a Shelby Cobra 427, putting in amazing battery packs and turning this sweet-looking car into a zero-emissions wonder.
400hp may not be a lot compared to many of todays cars but what you dont understand is the torque that it puts out is near 1,000lbs. Combine with the fact that it makes approx 400hp and 1,000 foot pounds of torque at ZERO RPM'S! Yeah Id say this things gonna be pretty untouchable in the 1/8th mile.
They did a beautiful job! No half-assed attempt, and I think it's great that these guys weren't afraid to take on one of America's "sacred cows" and convert a Shelby Cobra. You never get anywhere without pushing boundaries and pissing off establishments. I'm sure horse enthusiasts were mad when the first internal combustion car came around, but, well, who gives a shit?... Bravo!
Really, a 300 KW (which is about 400 HP) is supposed to "untouchable" in the 1/8 mile, and it cost $100+k. Sorry, for that price, give me a kit car (because carving up an original is punishable by death, unless your name is Carol Shelby) with an NRE motor; and I'll show him a car that "needs 14-18" slicks to hook up that kind of power", and it won't have a "110 mph top speed" or a "100 mile range".
someone shoot this guy, he has now turned one of the best cars in the world into a yuppie vehicle. Please someone shoot him, and bring back the 427 with the side pipes, thats what made the cobra a freaking cobra, the sound, now that you have a crappy electric engine, do you have the side pipes? probably not, so its nothing like the "real" shelby cobra. Your a liar and a fake, go shoot yourself
yeah thats why he ruined a kit car and will spank a 427 up and down the track. Oh and I agree they didn't need the 427 in the title since its well not there.
he said the body was carbon fiber. there for it is a kit car. the true 427 cars were aluminum, not fiberglass, and carbon firber was unheard of in the 60's
jesus christ what a waste of an american legand. you piece of shit. you shouldn't even mention the 427 cause that is the size of the actual engine dumb ass

I talked to the is guy at the Detroit Auto Show. Bright cat.
And before you get testy--he used kits for these. It's nice engineering study.
