Twice a week we spray down our tortoises and they love it. Here a group of juvenile to sub-adult Italian Testudo hermanni hermanni enjoy an artificial "shower". 4/3/07

Are you sure that's a good substrate for your breed? My breeder told me to use a 50/50 mix of sand and soil. Also, I was told that they should get to bathe once or twice a week.

it's better to keep the soil moist instead of the tortoises themselfs.

use a different kind of soil, this is not really suited for these animals, they need to be able to dig into the soil.

try giving them a shallow pool to drink and bathe in. they love it.
