A very different approach to the subjet of improvisation. Rather than a focus on analytical studies, this is an approach by feel, color,touch,and immagery. A strong emphasis on the dependence of the ear and musical imagination.Perhaps misunderstood by many,but a real truth in the opinion of musicians.

Feeling, color, touch, imagery are all important, truly said & nicely demonstrated, though far beyond most of ours skills.

However one needs a physical ability to grow into accuracy & limberness; as well as some type of structure as a starting point. i.e. A chord progression that repeats that newer players can work from to find their way with the sounds.

You could show us a progression you enjoy or demonstrate a run or riff to help those who haven't had your musical experiences at the piano.

For students, its still a must to learn all scales etc. Are you saying you should skip that and just learn by ear?

Your remarkable casual comfort with all keys is not surprising given your many posts. Now I know what I want for Christmas- to play "exactly like you", to borrow from your examples. I too apprenticed at the forgotten firm of Wax, Needle, Vinyl & Groove (Classes of 78, 45 & 33 -natch) back when mp3 was not for you and me. I know the vocab well I just need to enunciate it better... Great insights - Klav
