Canadians were asked to compare the BlackBerry with the electric oven, life saving Insulin with artery clogging poutine, the caulking gun with the Wonderbra and vote on the Greatest Canadian Invention of all time.

The results are revealed in this breezy, entertaining look at which inventions Canadians consider to be the finest our country has ever produced. Picks and pans from renowned Canadians are featured while the countdown - from #50 to #1 - is presented.

Hosted by Bob McDonald of CBC Radio's popular Quirks & Quarks.

Running time approx. 95 minutes.

  • Also, Arne Tiselius, a member of the Nobel Committee in the 1960s and 1970s, stated that Paulescu was equally worthy if not more worthy of the 1923 Prize.

  • @zammmerjammer Um... the reason why Paulescu's work was never recognized is because the Zionist Simon Wiesenthal Center claimed he was an anti-Semite. They were going to inaugurate a bust of him at the Hotel Dieu in Paris.

And Banting and his colleagues did discredit Paulescu by misquoting his reports. Later they said they had made a "mistake" but the Nobel Prize still went to them.

  • letts see well the cell phone because most of the canadians go for phones and just to say blackberry is all right but i would rather go for iphone :)

  • Nicolae Paulescu discovered insulin, the two Candians just copied most of his work.

  • Nobody listen to this fucking moron.. he spews all kinds of shit that is false info.. just go to his page.. oh yah you cannot because its blocked.. You fucking cock sucker ShayisWY.. eat a dick you jack fuck. LOL!

  • @ShayisWY Sour grapes.

  • @ShayisWY Again, rubbish. Nothing was stopping Paulescu from advancing with his research or using it clinically -- he didn't, so someone else did. He can't retroactively take credit for saving the lives of millions. Paulescu made the first step, yes, but he didn't advance with it, nor did he apply it to living subjects.

How do you think advancements in science are made, exactly?

  • @zammmerjammer ""I regret very much that there was an error in our translation of Professor Paulescu's article, I cannot recollect, after this length of time, exactly what happened (...) I do not remember whether we relied on our own poor French or whether we had a translation made. In any case I would like to state how sorry I am for this unfortunate error"

Canada is not simply as innovative as we would like to think
