Don Imus should have picked on someone his own size, not a girls basketball team. A response to "This Don Imus Fiasco is a Joke."

  • I think his ignorance should have been ignored in this situation. He's just another talking head grasping for ratings. Sticks and stones may break their bones...

  • Surely you know that words effect far more damage than you have acknowledged. This is why a biblical proverb states, "reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing."

  • My point, which I failed to make in the video, is why now? Imus has done some blatantly racist and sexist things on his show frequently in the past and his career is over now because of something relatively incomprable. Why not 10 years ago? By not highlighting Imus in the past, his actions and speech have been effectively condoned by the FCC and the general public (including Sharpton).

  • Why now? A sheet of ice can only bear a human's weight for so long. A stubborn skater who continues to deny he/she is in a precarious situation, and continues to glide atop a frozen lake, is bound to fall in at some point. I hope that Imus' firing says that America is growing up and is no longer willing to tolerate the culturally-insensitive remarks deemed humorous in the 1970s.

  • Can't go wrong with Solomon.

  • And as I mentioned to my father this morning, I still have a problem with Sharpton being recognized as the mouthpiece of this fiasco. If I could just hear an apology for some things previous, I'd be a little more inclined to lend him my respect.

  • The thing I have a problem with now is the emphasis that was placed on the "nappy headed hoes" comment being the reason for his termination. Why did the networks not have the fortitude to say that this was the incident that broke that proverbial sheet of ice, as opposed to a solitary incident that was simply over the top. You know what I mean?

  • I was having a conversation with my father this morning and he said the same thing. Imus has been consistent with his wrong-doing and this is just a case of his actions catching up to him. He (my father) quoted Martin Luther King who said, "The arc of the universe is long, but it bends towards justice." I completely agree with him and you and apparently need to re-evalutate and amend my own views.

  • Thanks for the response. I can clearly recognize the validity of your arguments but am still inclined to disagree with certain points. Free speech encompasses whatever you want to say, except for the stipulation in the Alien and Sedition Acts that prevents citizens from speaking out against the President in a time of war (although it's not enforced). Statements like this should be expected from people like Don Imus.
