Sad Song #14 -- "Julie's Song" by Joel Hanson
This is the song about a woman named Julie Steiskal. She lived her life with conviction and had a knack for loving those around her with genuine unconditional love. Julie tried to save a girl who slipped and fell into a river. Refusing to let go of her hand in her attempt to save the girl, both of them were swept over some falls to their ultimate death. It prompts the question -- can a person be classified a hero in a failed attempt at heroism? I say the answer is yes, because the ability to look past oneself and risk the possibility of death for someone else is heroic in and of itself. But the outcome was still so sad, so very sad.
