A video of perhaps one of my favorite C64 SHMUPS. Why, I do not know!! I met Tony at Alligator software back in 1986 and was just so impressed by his style and this remains with me to this day.
There is something very special about this game that rewards the player.
A fantastic SHMUP!!!

  • I remember playing this game for 6 hours straight when i was about 14.

I was so addicted to it, that at one point it made me trip out and hallucinate a bit.

I totally ignored all the warnings about taking a regular break. Good times!

  • This C64 game is brilliant. This is the only game I know in which the sattelites for the shuttle consisted of CHARS (from a charset), which where able to shoot themselves. There is a 2-player mode (one player steers a red & the other one green shuttle). To activate move the joystick to the right before you start the game & a second score will appear. You can power up your friend's shuttle & have a mega shot. The disk version was faulty, but some hackers fixed it finally: REMEMBER C64 google it

  • I believe that this is actually multicolour bitmapped mode (not text mode) due to the fact that each tile has its own colours, though I'm not entirely sure... I'm not even sure how the hell this is even possible... well, you definitely have a sprite multiplexer as there are only 8 sprites, and this is definitely double-buffered at least, maybe triple-buffered.

  • I like how they made parallax scrolling on the C64 by rotating character graphics at various speeds.

  • Back in 1988 or 1989 Jeff Minter told me about some new game his mate Tony Crowther was working on that used a newly discovered VIC-II bug. The bug allowed the screen to be shifted up to 40 chars horizontally without shifting screen memory. I'm not sure if this was the one he meant, though.
