Sion Simon, the MP for Birmingham Erdington and Minister for Creative Industries, answers questions posed by the public through the Yoosk website, which you can find at www.yoosk.com.

The questions were put to him during Labours annual conference in Brighton by Jonathan Walker, political editor of The Birmingham Mail and Birmingham Post.

This question: "You mention on your blog that you 'support the general wish to keep the Mail an evening paper' and that 'redoubled investment in the online platform will be crucial to Trinity Mirror's future success.'

"Do you think that Trinity Mirror have money to invest? And if not, where should the investment come from? Do you believe that local newspapers are a public service worthy of government support/investment?"
