Is there really justice in arguing FOR hillsong? everyone, please, I'm sure nobody here represents Hillsong or owns them in anyway to get all defensive and such, so just stop arguing over the net. It is true that they use dotted 8th a lot, and it IS in some ways a "safety zone" for them, but dotted 8th is used for progressive music, in this case Christian Rock. It's not because they can't be anymore creataive, it's that the 8ths are what goes with the mix well.

A very good point which pretty much clears up this debate

How many bands in general use dotted 8? And they are a praise and worship band not some rockstars from the uk. So their approach is completely different. You have to be mindful of what works in a church setting, I am not going to say i am an expert on them but why would they change what works? i highly doubt they will start using heavy metal solos ect. into the worship setting if its not going to react well with the people they r doing it for. Its more about he setting than talent

I'm just talking about Christian rock! afraid I have qualifications in music :) how many Hillsong tunes have the dotted delay solos going on?? they are safety zone musicians with very little imagination
-
that has to be the most ignorant thing to say. Its obvious you don't have any type of musical knowledge when you say that they "should stop copying the edge". The reason why music even exist is because someone was influenced by someone else, if you think that every one who plays guitar should not sound like someone else you have a lot to learn about music. they admit that they have been influenced by a numerous amount of bands just like every single musician/band in the world
-
if thats your basis then maybe we should all stop playing. theres a difference between being influenced by a player and ripping him off
-
I think people can hear the rip offs for themselves, their not that hard to notice if your a guitar player. I have been around Christian guitar players who will admit theres a thing about the Edge going on :) and I can't remember specific names of tunes and I'm not going to spend time to point out the titles
-
@Fender1976uk that doesn't cut it son, i want names of specific songs...which one rips off streets? if your going to accuse them of that at least back yourself up. look at the video of nigel playing this, (he came up with the parts) he plays 16ths for the intro line and verse, not a ton of delay, just fast playing
-
There is afew tunes where you can hear U2 guitar lines, I forgot the titles but one plays a part to 'the streets have no name' for an example :) anyway, using delayed dotted eighths does make you sound like U2 because the Edge was the guitar player that came up with that way of playing, back in the 80's!!! it wasn't considered great at first by some but it was original but that was 30 odd years ago!
-
@Fender1976uk and what u2 lines are they nicking in this song? using dotted eighths doesnt make you sound like u2
haha very good!!.. You Deserve was not very good on this Album.
