David Plouffe, campaign manager for Barack Obama, answers a question about the National Popular Vote proposal, which would do away with the Electoral College system in favor of a national majority vote. Plouffe was speaking at the Amazon.com offices in Seattle on May 12, 2009, about his upcoming book, The Audacity to Win, coming out in November.
@JScott65203 Also the representation in the Senate is heavily weighted to the small rural states and that is where the fight is to preserve the ag subsidies, etc. Those rural issues will not go away.

As he says, the problem with just concentrating on one type of area (battle ground states or large population centers) is one that 1). might (likely) occur with the NPV and is 2). one that we have now. It would be a bigger issue if we just had one branch of government and if political parties were just in DC. Rs in south dakota will have more of a reason to turn out than to just win SD, and their local parties will do the GOTV.
